ACE 15 years on
2010 will be the 15th Anniversary of ACE Trains.
Allen Levy thinks all associated with ACE deserve to crown their big loco range with something special that also completes a personal trilogy of Kings Cross memories A1, 3 and 4. Len tells me that he also haunted platform 10 as a young man. A case of trains that passed in the night.
As a young man Allen spent hours in all weathers at the head of platform 10 the last main line platform before the suburban platforms and all those panting N2s “I know we have done the Eastern Region proud but I saw more A1s slipping to get up the gradient out of Kings Cross than I care to remember. Accordingly I will indulge ACE and inaugurate our E/12 project, which of course will include 'Tornado' a locomotive whose name was put forward by me some 15 years ago (see page 119 of 'Brilliantly Old Fashioned' and ACE Trains Catalogue No 1 1998)". This project will proceed chronologically namely after the E/11Duchess series..
Other names and liveries in the original class will be issued.
New Cavendish Books donated this fund raising brochure for the A1 project. Initially the locomotive was to be named New Cavendish in return for a substantial donation to the eventual Trust. However, pending certain legal formalities it became apparent that the project would need considerably more funding than originally thought. To this end I suggested that the name be a more universal one in terms of further fund raising. Despite other long scrapped locos having borne this name I suggested Tornado with its association with The RAF would be a more appropriate choice. The then managing committee agreed and although the project was to overrun its completion date and initial budget by a considerable margin the decision was the right one.

Details of our current dispute and legal position vis a vis A Grabowsky/Vintage Trains regarding name, copyright and tooling
The E/5 ex Cambrian/GWR 844 Class will be issued shortly after the LMS 4F this year as part of our ongoing E/5 series. We would point out that the ex LNER J/19 issued by our former factory without our initial permission (our later permission since withdrawn on advice from our lawyers) but based on our tooling is not an ACE product. However we will not now return to that project as the model issued was rather disappointing and not up to our standard thus any attempt to reissue it as a genuine ACE product would be counter productive.
We will proceed with further models in the series (which commenced with the Q Class) in 2011/12. (click on pictures for other views)
