ACE Coaches goes to work with an egg on the roof.

ACE Trains C/13 gauge 0 BR Mk1 Western Region Coaches were the stars of an ‘Eggsperiment’ held recently at the Transport for London Museum in Covent Garden.

They were used as part of a new Transport for London programme aimed at encouraging students to pursue engineering as a career called ‘Braking Eggsperiment’, held by their engineers.

The engineers used the coaches as a key component of one of the interactive experiment that was called the Braking Eggsperiment, an exercise in utilising track profile to reduce the need for braking and its consequential heat output; the fine quality of the models provided very smooth running, getting the fragile egg "passenger" to its destination safely and allowing the students to work with the engineering principles we were attempting to demonstrate rather than having to wrestle with the practicalities of small scale modelling. Five schools visited both our Covent Garden and Acton sites, with a good cross section of year nine students thoroughly engaging in the activities offered whilst receiving support, advice and encouragement from the Transport for London engineers.
